Differences in field length limits - Table Fields/Global Var

Can anyone explain why there are differences in the field length limits for
type "Code" & type "Text" variables defined as Table Fields and/or as Global Variables.

There is a field length limit of 250 on Table Field variables of type code
and text!

There is a field length limit of 1024 on Global variables of type code and
text!

Is this a defect?
TIA

This is not a defect, this is how navision works. I wish they could do something about it, but they haven't. Maybe once native server no longer is supported.

I thought that this problem was fixed in NAV4.00SP3, obviously not.

The constraints seem to be coming from the design of the NAV C/SIDE Native database. I have heard rumours that the Navision Native Database Option will be discontinued and will not ship with the NAV 6.0 release. So for customers using the NAV C/SIDE Native Database will need to upgrade to SSS2000/SS2005 databases.
    thanks

And until version 2.60, the text global variable was also limited to 250 chars. So consider yourself lucky you don't work with those versions.
