Hi guys

From the first day, I joined the mibuso, I was fascinated by the huge amount of information it provides. Especially that it addresses all Microsoft Business Solutions or Microsoft Dynamics recently. But the thing is that most of the hot topics, discussion, tips and solutions are for "NAVISION", which is wonderful, but I have been noticing that others like "Great Plains" are found just for the looks :). No new posts, even if a post is made, no one would reply. Is it because, all of you guys are navision specialists...or is it because Great Plains is not so...interesting...

I used to be a navision consultant, and I have recently shifted to Great Plains having 2 years administration experience in it. So that's why...iam nagging... ;)

This used to be a Navision only site and the other products have been added after that.

First Axapta was bought by Navision and then after the transaction with Microsoft GP and SL were added.

    I think the reasons are:

    1) Navision is quite development-oriented: if you read the manuals and are still unsure whether it can do something by standard what wasn't mentiond there, 99% is it cannot.

    2) Navision is very easy to develop, many developers came from a business background rather than a technical one, therefore are a lot a more communicative than "traditional" developers, who tend to be a bit introverted.

A "Navision constultant" means somebody who at leasts sometimes holds some user trainings between two coding sessions :) which is quite different from the traditional ERP consulting approach. Being able to easily read and modify the code, Navision consultants/developers feel a lot safer than those who fight with huge, obscure ERP systems. Therefore it often becomes not only a work, but a hobby as well - and this encourages people to use the forum a lot.

    3) Navision has many misfeatures that scare "traditional" developers away (lack a good IDE, no Data Definition Language for runtime modification of tables, no evaluating text as code etc.), leaving usually only the previous group in business in the long run.

    4) If you add the virtues and vices of Navision together and try to find the best approach, it will be a bit kinda "cowboy programming" - or in other words, test-driven, rather than design-driven development. In the ERP/CRM/SCM whatever world, probably Navision is the closest thing to magic - I know of no other system where you could make significat changes in the user experience during the coffee break of a training. This tends to give people lot of self-confidence, a bit of a heroic feeling, a bit of feeling like Oz, The Great Wizard :D and it also helps communicativeness and forum life. And of course it's a moral imperative for Oz to help apprentice mages :)

    Hi guys

... But the thing is that most of the hot topics, discussion, tips and solutions are for "NAVISION", which is wonderful, but I have been noticing that others like "Great Plains" are found just for the looks :). No new posts, even if a post is made, no one would reply. ...

Actually the core reason is that when Great Plains was great plains, one of the things it had was a very mature on line support system that was sponsored and run directly by Great Plains. What we now see as Partner Source, and Cusotmer Source were originally Great Plains supported sites. Thus there was never a real need for any independent support sites. In fact its only recently that you could start to find anything about Navision on Partner Source and Cusotmer source, a few years back it was still all just Great Plains.

This same question came up at mbsonline.org a while ago with the same issues. Also if you look at CRM, it has a huge following out there of web sites, so there is no real reason for them to look else where. I have spoken to a few CRM MVPs, and they really don't have time to frequent more sites.

If you want GP answers, then you need to get all the GP people you know to start frequenting www.mibuso.com and www.dynamicsusers.org but its a lot of work to get them interested, and word of mouth takes a long time.

Can I suggest that you don't get disappointed, but instead post lots of GP questions, and eventually Google will head the right people here.

PS I have no idea where the Axapta people go.

    HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Well, I would like to thank you guys for all the niceeeeeee explanation, as for you "LUC", I really like your contributions in these discussions ( Just the right thing to say directly to the point ).Again thx for all those who replied, I now have a clearer idea about the origin of this forum in the first place and that most of you are Navision specialists...

As for Great Plains, I would like to elaborate that it is used for codings as well. Actually the company I work for are creating customized modules using its native language Dexterity. And being a person who experienced both applications ( frankly Nav 3.7, 4.0 and GP 7.0 till 9.0 ) I can say that GP is really enhancing to become a complete solution. I am not marketing the product :), but the thing is the following: What will happen when both GP & NAV become one product in addition to CRM, SL & AX. Will navision will the base for all of them especially that .net will be the base structure. Too many things to wonder about....eh....

    Take care.

    Thank you for the website....

I have already registered myself to it and did a post. But I have noticed that it is not so active..., there are no recent posts and updates :(
Well, I guess I will have to face the fact that NAVISION has more people interested in it and GREAT PLAINS is still moving...

Anyway, I found a forum which is dedicated to Microsoft Dynamics GP which is quite good but sure not like www.mibuso.com. For those who are insterested check www.microsoftdynamicsforums.com, also there is the Microsoft offical discussion forum http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/commu ... nding.mspx

    Take care
