Run a report, click save as html, and change the file extension to .xls.
You will be able to open and manipulate the cells in Excel!
One thing you will find is that cells that should be discrete are occasionally merged.
Be sure to select all of the cells and un-tick the merge cells format property.
Total excel control -- the execs love it.

Once that's done, the excel spreadsheet could be opened with an automation, and even more fun stuff done that way!

I solve this by creating a textfile with a semicolon as seperator and naming the file as a .CSV. After the textfile has been closed it is executed with HYPERLINK. If csv-files are linked to Excel it opens it and asks for the seperator (usually a comma is used for CSV).
This opens the file in Excel and you can work with it as usual.
