How are double byte characters represented in Dynamics NAV

Is there documentation anywhere that defines how double byte characters are represented in Navision. We need to directly move some unicode data into some Navision fields (at the SQL level), and have not found anything that describes the way the data is physically stored by Navision or the metod of defining which characyter set the datra represents.

Aslo, does anybody know if there is a function to perform the conversion of something similar. Our base code is .net.

Have searched the forums and not found related solutions.

Any assistance really appreciated.
