Slow performance on MS SQL 2000 SP2 option

We have a problem with MS SQL 2000 (SP2) option.
Client worked with Navision server, but the database reached 64GB.
We migrated to MSSQL. Users are about 40. database size is: 72GB.
Server specification:
Xeon 2.5GB 512K/2M cache x 4, 4GB RAM, 8 x 73GB HDD (RAID1 and RAID 10 for data).
Disk queue length on data HDD is average 2. On log HDD is near 0.


Now the sales invoice registration takes about 5 minutes at day time.
At night time, sometimes registration takes 10 seconds!

With “Performance monitoring tools” I see these bad things:
1. One user blocks other users for a long time > 20 seconds
2. Commands like rec.LOCKTABLE and rec.FIND(‘+’) take, at day time, from 100 sec. to 400 sec. It is true for General Ledger, Item Ledger, Value entries and Item application entries.
