    Hi,

We are currently in test at a client with SP2 and SQL2005 and we have some security issues with the application roles when using windows authentication.

The users get the following error:

"The Session table does not exist as the requested object name of databasename.dbo.Session in the database"

Are there known security issues with SP2 on SQL2005?

    Regards,

We are using SP2+update and MS SQL 2005 without problems. Of course, there are some security changes between prev. versions and SP2 (for example sometime you have problems accessing empty table you have no access to. In prev. versions no problem, now sometimes error...). But it can be solved.

What? the solution? The problem was connected to some local add-ons. Solution differs from case to case...

I do not know about "global" issues for SP2 + MS SQL 2005.

We have problems with the security.

The only way (at this moment) to give the windows users access to the database is to make them sys_admin on SQL 2005.

And this, of course, is not the way to work.

When we remove the sys_admin role and try to do a full synchronize of the security from within Navision. That client freezes (even after one day, it didn't finish) and we have to kill it.

    Any idea's?

    Thank you and regards,

    1) Try to synchronize just one user.
    2) Check if you are using latest XP_NDO.DLL on your server
    3) Check if you are using the update for SP2
    4) How much users you have in your DB? One user can take about 3 minutes to synchronize, it depends on HW and permission complexity.

    1) Synch of one user works, I'll ask the user to try again
    2) version number of xp_ndo.dll: 4.0.2.22100
    3) version number of client: 4.0.2.22100
    4) No of users: 136
As this is a test system HW is not optimal

I've found a 4.0.2.22979 finsql client (only a few days old)

Do you know what kind of bugs/features are fixed with this update?

    Did the update help?

Now we have got the error-message:
"The Session table does not exist as the requested object name of databasename.dbo.Session in the database"

I was given build 4.0.2.23099 by MS support for use at one of our clients. I am not sure if this is an official release yet. MS called it an SP3 rolldown.

When I ask if 4.0.2.23099 was an official release this is the response I got from Microsoft:
This build is still a pre-release, but we are expecting the full SP3 release later this month. I can't make any guarantees about that, but that's the latest information that we have.

    bbrown:

Update 03 is not considered an official release, it is considered a hotfix. I asked this same question to MBS support, and received the following answer:
The definition of a hotfix is: A hotfix is a single, cumulative package that includes one or more files that are used to address a problem in a product. Hotfixes address a specific customer situation.

Hotfixes are used to address a specific customer situation, so you should only apply a hotfix to customers who are experiencing one or more of the issues that the hotfix addresses. Hotfixes should not be loaded if a customer is not experiencing any of the problems addressed in a hotfix.

Hotfixes are not publicly available from PartnerSource as they have not gone through full Microsoft regression testing. This does not mean that the hotfix has not been fully tested, but it does mean, that it has not gone through full regression testing.

All hotfixes and updates for SP2 will be included in SP3 for 4.0, which will be an official released version, which can be downloaded from PartnerSource.

The Updates/Hotfixes for 4.0 SP2 have been the following (also given from Microsoft):
    Update 1 (Executable) KB919407 Build 22611
    Update 2 (N/ODBC) KB921893 Build 22851
    Update 3 (Executable) KB922695 Build 23099

At the end of the day, it's your decision on what you want to implement. Build 23099 _is_ Update 03 for Dynamics-NAV 4.0 SP2, at least this has been what was communicated to us, and I have confirmed this through other sources as well. We have installed this update at a couple of our client sites, and it has worked wonderfully thus far.

Hope this clears the air a bit...
