Microsoft Dynamics-NAV 4.0 SP2 Update 02 Released (FINAL)!

FYI:

Microsoft released Update 02 for Dynamics-NAV SP2 yesterday. I recommend that everyone get's this update, especially if you are using SQL Server 2005. There are known issues with Update 01 for SP2 (the countapprox function does not work and can cause other issues) and this update is supposed to fix these functions.

On top of that, a new security model has been introduced. No longer do you need to use the new security model that was introduced with 4.0...you can now choose between a Standard security model (Before 4.0), or the Enhanced model (4.0+) which requires synchronization.

Ask your VAR regarding this update...and if you're a VAR and have customers on SP2 and you're having problems like we did, get the update...it helped our installations and could be a perspicacious decision for your organization as well.

(adj) perspicacious, sagacious, sapient (acutely insightful and wise) "much too perspicacious to be taken in by such a spurious argument"; "observant and thoughtful, he was given to asking sagacious questions"; "a source of valuable insights and sapient advice to educators"

    ara3n:

You need to contact the Dynamics support team to download the update. You can do this by opening a support request at the following URL:

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/support/newstart.aspx

After you have contacted the support team, they will send a link to the file, along with a password to decrypt the zip contents.

    FYI:

This update has been regressed as of today (08/16/2006). Do not install the original update, as Microsoft has stated that there is an issue.

Once I hear on the issue, I will post a follow-up.

They should have stopped at SP1. I hope someone got fired at MS as this whole SP2 thing has been just embarrasing. And now they even screwed up with the SP for the SP!!!

Not to make excuses but I think SP2 was the first time that they did all the development work on SQL instead of C/Side and I am sure there were a few issues with this, but going forward this should make for a much better Navision/SQL product.

    FYI.

I didn't update this topic because of time, but it looks like Microsoft addressed the issue.

Basically, you should not overwrite the fin.stx and fin.etx that come with Update 02 with the files that exist in the ENU folder for Update 02. I know this is confusing, but if you have the update, I think you'll know what I mean (just copy and paste the entire update over the client directory and you should be fine).
