Drag and drop would be a nice future and is easy to implement. Nothing will have to be rewritten with for example a gantt sollution.
I wrote a gantt chart as a visual component (see downloads, commercial demos, embedded controls that explains visual components in navision) where you can drag and drop production order routing lines and the only thing that is done in navision that the "starting date-time" and/or "work center no." fields are validated with new values. This is initiated by a trigger of the visual component. When navision traps an error the visual component also performs a rollback.
It is verry simple and for 95% only the visual layer has to be changed. Navision functionality can be as is as you still use the standard validation routines.
But probably (and maybe luck for us as we already have a great drag and drop tool) Navision 5 will not have such functionality.
In a world without Borders or Fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
I know I will loose the bet, because people will ask about 5 and I will try to answer. Anyways they were going to release it originally in 4th quarter and now it looks like it'll be released H2 2007. And all this time they are releasing only a few bussiness functionality. That's two years of development time.
