I've been searching the forums and doing all previous recommendations but still cannot open the service.
Still getting the infamous:
"Could not start the Navision Attain Database Server XXXXX service on Local Computer. Error 1: Incorrect function." :x
-The license is correct and with the granule
-The parameters are not necessary because all specified but I have also tried to put the tipical SERVERNAME,NETTYPE & stuff
-The Hosts and Services files are not modified because they work by doing a shortcut to the server Client.
:x :x :x
Any ideas will be appreciated! :P

Not exactly what is DBMS but when running SERVER.exe I've got the following caracteristics:
Cache(KB).......................: 1000000
CommitCache..................: Yes
It's a brand new server!

No PM,please use the forum. || May the <SOLVED>-attribute be in your title!
I have reduce the cache to 100000 and still get the same message.
Can run the datbase as local file. but cant get the server to start.
Any other suggestions.
Andrew :?
I managed to fire up ther server from a DOS window so it proves to me that the database.fdb and fin.flf files are ok.
The server can now be hit across the LAN.
But it still doesnt start as a service.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

are to registry entries: Cache and CommitCache
Most likely the value of Cache is to large for Navision because Navision can only use 1 GB of memory

I'm having similar problem. My client just bought a new machine with Windows Server 2003 SP1. Able to ping from client PC. Tried to reduce the cache but still the same error.
Thanks

worked great - maybe you should re-install

We have been running with Cache at 580000 for months, this morning the server stopped and the only way that we could get the service to restart was when we dropped the cache setting to 550000.
What would be the cause for this to change?

Do you have automatic updates active?
Has the server been re-started recently (power failure, anything)
Is there anything else installed on this server other than OS & Navision?
this is a quote from an old doc I have
-(note I don't know if you are using sql or native)
So perhaps the settings you had was just enuf for Nav & the OS.
For some reason now the OS now needs more cache (maybe something updated). so the Nav cache needs to be lowered for everything to work.
You know what I mean? Just a theory.

I know what you mean, in my case Auto updates isn't activated...the server was restarted only AFTER we couldn't start the service so I don't think that's what happened....but it's a good angle....
I would think that if the problem was related to the OS and Navision Cache using all the available memory, then I shouldn't have been able to allocated the 550000 to a second service. It seems that as long as I do not exceed 550000, I can add as many Navision services as I want.
being able to do this suggests to me that there is memory available and that somehow there is a something in Navision that is restricted the level of cache.
But then, what do I know. ](*,)

Client runs, however, by pointing the database to the right location, as is suggested here, but the service still won't start when I try and do it manually. Does anyone know why? And where is the cache adjustment made? Thanks in advance!

The solution is simple… Just go to configuration panel, software and uninstall the Navision Database service.
Now install the Navision database service again using the installer and everything will work again.
so we had to remove those updates
