Navision v4 sp2 login hang

Hello All,
Navision v4.0 sp2
10 users
In the middle of implementation (not actually in production yet)
XP pro clients 512mb ram 2.4ghz-3ghz
Server Dedicated 3.2 ghz 2gb ram db split over 2 raid 1 sets 15k rpm drives
Navision DB server c/side
cache is set to 32mb

When a user launches the client, they are instantly greated with the login box (db auth). Once you enter your username and pass and hit OK, navision appears to hang anyware from 10-40 seconds before you can see the nav pane. Once in, its lightning fast. It also hanges when switching between databases/companies.
Do you have any suggestions on what can resolve this issue? I've tried everything i can think of and nothing seems to correct the issue.

Thanks,
Tony

    cache is set to 32mb

Which cache are you referring to (object (client) or DBMS (server)?

Set your client's object cache to 20 to 30 MB.

Set your DBMS cache (on service) to 850 MB.

    Hi bbrown,
Sorry.... I wasn't more clear. My client oblect cache is set to <32000>. I need to check my server DBMS..... is there any way i can check the current setting on the server? If i remember correctly, during setup, it was set alittle higher.

    Thanks,
    Tony

Open a command window on your server and go to the directory where the Navision server is installed. Then run server.exe at command prompt. IF the service is running, it will return the current settings.

does your clients have firewall sw like zone alarm or something like that?

I had a client that had ZoneAlarm, configured properly but there was allways hang out on opening navisision. after logging, everything worked great, only on before logging hang occured.

    Hi Phenno,
Most of the client OS's aren't even sp2, so they don't have any firewall on them.

    Thanks,

We don't have the outlook intergration granuale...... i think. If we do its not setup yet. For the life of me i can't figure it out.
Whats the REAL requirements for memory in a workstation? I would like to hear some specs of some of your clients workstation that work perfectly.

    Thanks,

I never had problems with standard sp2 windows firewall. I thought about third party firewalls like ZoneAlarm or Kerio. But, if you are sure that they does not have firewalls installed at all, forget my reply :)

OK instead of typing the server name put the IP Address of the server. That might solve it.

Are you logged in alone or there are other users? Do not forget, that after last user logout, the DB is closed, and after first login, it takes some time to open the DB and fill cache...
