I have created a SQL user in the Navision database using Enterprise Manager as a dbreader. This user is not known to Navision.
From time to time this user is dropped from the SQL database and we need to recreate it.
The user is used for extracting information so when it is dropped it does cause a problem.
Is this anything to do with synchronisation as the user isn't known to Navision. That is, when a user is changed/added in Navision does the synchronisation routine just overwrite the SQL based security thereby dropping my user ?

I would add the user to navision, but don't give them any roles. The user won't be able to do anything, but will not be droped from SQL.
