Wrong item applications...

I found a strange problem with item applications...
Navision is v4.0 (without SPs... haven't tried with SP1)

To reproduce it do:

Create 2 items with same properties, TEST1 and TEST2

Make 1 sales of TEST1 (10 pcs) from location A
Make 2 sale of TEST2 (10 pcs) from location A

post it.

Make 1 inbound entries of TEST1 (10 pcs) to location A and use "Applies-from Entry" field to connect it with sales.
Make 2 inbound entry of TEST2 (10 pcs) to location A and use "Applies-from Entry" field to connect it with sales.

post it.

after item adjust (which is pretty much irelevant here) if you look at item ledger you will see that entries for TEST2 are properly closed and Remaining Quantity are 0, but entries for TEST1 are NOT closed!

The only difference for these two test items is that for TEST1 I made entries once and for TEST2 I made it twice.

to repeat:
TEST2 entries are properly closed but TEST1 not.

P.S. i made sales and inbound entries through item journals...

    I brought this up to Microsoft and they said this was there by design without providing any reasonable explaination. #-o

    it' strange to me that, if I work with two sales entries and than two positive entries it will close both of them.

    but with one, not.

    How can I close them or at least correct the problem (any idea)?

    hm... after few hours of looking at ledgers and item applications here are some conclusions...

    1) if you post positive entry without Apply-from Entry it will close entries correctly

    2) if you post sale/positive entry with Apply-from Entry it will not close entries. But, if you post then another pair of sale/positive entry without Apply-from Entry it will close All four entries correctly (though, not by FIFO or at least not by FIFO that I thought it should).

    2) it seems that, in first pair of sales and positive entry (with Apply-from Entry) navision thinks that this was sale & correction of sales. With another sales/positive entry it closed circle that looks like this:

    I1 = first sale
    I2 = first positive With Apply from Entry
    I3 = second sale
    I4 = second positive Without Apply form Entry

    After closing, you will see next item flow:

    I4 is entry point for that item.
    That item was sold by I1.
    You have correction of that sale by I2.
    You have normal sale of corrected entry by I3.

    And, that is how he closed entries indeed.

    Strange or not, but it seems that they are right and this is how it should be (so, it means that i'm in wrong).

    Yes, this makes sense if you're starting out with positive quantities. However, if you start out with 0 or negative quantities, you'll get problems.

    Hence, MS stated that this function will not work with negative inventory.

    unfortunatly, mistakes happens (eg. wrong item is posted, that will never be purchased...) and I cannot do anything there except to forbid posting of negative entries if there is no enough inventory on locations.

    Ok, thx guys...
