navision 3.7 / capturing bar codes / Item tracking module

Are there any issues with Navision 3.7 / Item tracking module with respect to capturing bar codes / lot numbers?
We have a navision parter who says it does and we will have to upgrade to Navision 4.0 to do that. Given time and financial constraints, an upgrade is not an immediate solution for us. Is this issue true, and if it is, are there any workarounds? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

2) It is not problem to use item tracking and barcode reading in version 3.70... (of course, it has some limits, for example you can use just one lot no. per transfer order line, one lot. no. per item journal line and the application must be prepared for that)
