Hi,
A customer of mine has recently upgraded to 3.7 and they are experiencing a very poor performance .
It takes about 20-30 seconds just to generate a lookup.
Salary processing takes up to 12 hours.
The cache on the clients is already 18000kb.
Server specs:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (5.2,build 3790)
ServicePack 1
System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: HP Netserver
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) III processor, ~1.0GHz
Memory: 768MB RAM.
Can somebody shed some light as to what can cause this poor performance?
Thnx in advance

Is the poor perfromance at the workstation or also on the server?
What is the spec. for the workstation?
Are you running C/Side or SQL?
No we haven't changed the disk configuration.

The poor performance is at the workstation.
What is the spec. for the workstation?
The workstation which was running the salary processing is a PIII,192MB
Are you running C/Side or SQL?
C/Side
You can watch the CPU and Memory utilization in task manager...

1) CPU, RAM, HDDs activity on client and on server.
2) Network performance
You wrote that "The cache on the clients is already 18000kb. " What does it means? 18000kb is 18MB - it is not big... :-)
How big is the cache on your Navision DB server?

What would you suggest please?
- how is the performence if you run a client on the navision server ?
- how much stress do the disks and CPU have on the server ?
havent tried that yet
- how much stress do the disks and CPU have on the server ?
cpu usage server 2-3%
some performance tips:
1. use the commitcache property (commitcache=yes)
2. Max memory usage (when the navision service is running there should be around 200MB of memory available to the OS, can be seen in the taks manager of the server, tab Performance, look under Physical Memory (K), all the rest can be assigned to server.exe of navision with the cache property)
Other tips will follow

Looking good!
commitcache = yes
How can i assign the rest of the memory to the server without re-installing?

good luck
This hardware setup sounds pretty slow for a Navision server. Depending on your database size and the number of users, you definately want a fast machine as a server. The faster the machine, the better your performance.
With Navision, a lot of work is done on the server level, especially with the newer versions of Navision where resource usage is a lot higher than Navision 2.x.

Ok Where can i find the MMC plugin for navision financials?
The keys are activated.
The database size is about 2.5 Gb.
No. of users : 20 of which 2 or 3 do alot of processing at the end of the month.
our first machine was a PIII - we upgraded to a Xeon & doubled the mem.
It's like Night & Day MY adjust cost report went from 3 hours to 15 mins.
