Hello,
Would someone be able to tell me what a Stock Keeping Unit is and what they are used for? - I always thought SKU's were like an extension of the item card.
In Navision, "Stockkeeping Units" are used to assign location specific attributes to Items. An example might be different location may purchase the item from different vendors.
A stockkeeping unit is in Navision a combination of Item number, Location Code and Variant Code, and it enables you to specify certain values based on those proprties. You also need to have stockkeeping units enabled to take advantage of some functionality.
The name is very confusing, because the term 'stockkeeping unit' means something completely different to most people.
it enables you to specify certain values based on those proprties.
More detailled : if you have to manage different reordering methods, different stock politics (reorder point, lot, ...) or costing method on the same Item but for different Location and/or Variant, you need to use SKU.
Without SKU, you need to define the same Item twice and you loose a "global" vue on it...
