That is true , but all the videos about the RIM Toolkit are standard functionality ( I found the site from a link on the PartnerSource RIM download site). Even the videos about add-ons, if they are presented in such a fashion , might provide helpful ideas for your own development.

In my opinion, it’s a pure scandal that MS is not including reference manuals for all Navision modules in their latest release 4.**.

We have a +25.000 euros worth license and each year we have to pay a certain percentage of that amount to get what??? It is like “give us x-thousands of euros a year but we’re not telling you what you’ll get for your money”.

We’re a manufacturing company and we also try to sell our new products to existing customers and try to convince them to upgrade to our latest product line. Imagine that one of our salespersons tells a customer to pay for an upgrade but refuses to tell that customer about the benefits and the differences of that upgrade. Worse, if he wants to know, he has to pay for new manuals. What a joke!!

With standard Navision manuals, we could have the ability to see and test what’s new in the latest version and that could give us the opportunity to make decisions about for example skipping certain customizations of the past and switch to standard functionality. We don’t need NSC consultants for this. We, end users, are in best position to make this kind of decisions because we’re using our ‘customized’ Navision version every day, while NSC consultants work on numerous different projects and one cannot expect them to know all the ins and outs of my Navision implementation.

I also heard from people working for NSC's (and not the small ones), that even they don’t have new manuals because they’re to expensive. How are they informed about all the new things in the latest versions? Trial and error? On site, during the implementation or upgrade, when the customer is paying their hours for professional advice? I'm getting worried about this.

The problem is that MS is paying a solution center to write the manuals. To makeup the cost, it's in their right to sell them. I personally have read any manuals for 4.0. Most of new feature they've added to 4.0 is very small. Some are painfull. New SQL security. Main menu.
Maybe we should have a "rants and raves" section on mibuso?
