Hello,

Asking for anyone who has additional information on what an "invalid file pointer at the end of the database" means?!?!

A clients Navision Fin Server 2.6B blue screened and the Navision Database has been corrupted. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/smiles/icon_eek.gif" /> When logging into Navision as a client session a user is unable to optimize a Small table, enter information etc. without receiving a message concerning file database size and requiring an expand.

Database information reports that the database used size (Now mysteriously 20GB when before was 15GB) is the same size as the file size of 20GB. if an expand is done (successfully) and you then close the database and re-open it, the size is once again equal and there is no reported database space!

I talked to Navision Tech support and was told the following:
That it was due to an "invalid file pointer at the end of the database" and that Navision US has a recovery tool to correct the issue but that it was not licensed for or available to NSC's. The only solutions I've been presented at this time is to WINRAR the file (approx 3.5GB and ftp to Navision US to recover) or restore a backup (approx 12 Hours to Restore).

Navision will not use TServer to correct the issue due to legal issues even if the client will sign a waiver releasing Navision from legal responsibility.

Has anyone had a similar issue, have a work around, had Navision correct the issue or know of a utility that we can get our hands on to correct the issue ourselves as NSC?

Thanks.
Cheers,

Navision Belgium uses a C/DART tool to recover corrupted databases. They don't supply this tool to NSC's, but they send someone to the customer site with this tool. This tool recovers the database, with almost no data loss.
