Changing Lenght DataType

Hi all Navision Master....

I want to change length of Description field from Item Table(for e.g 30 to 75).Is there the fastest way to change link to another table for Description field?
There is a lot of object(table,form,codeunit,report,etc) use description field from Item table and wasting time if I change it one by one.
I only can see the link from Navision Developer Toolkit 2.0.

If you do that, you will have a lot of problems, because it is copied everywhere. The best thing is to create a new field and put it in other places where you need it and change the code to fill it.
Did you Search for "description and item"? You can find a lot of info about this.

There is another hiden field in the item card "Description 2" (Text 30).
You can open it on the item card and users must divide description in 2 parts.

Yes, but 30+30 < 75.
But if you can use it, you just have to put it on the forms where you need it.

First,I split description into Description field and Description 2 field in Item Card,but still not enough.....how to handle it?the last way,is making change standard Navision? :shock:

Yes. Add a new field with 75 chars and you have to copy it in the tables where you need it and you have to change add some C/AL to fill it in these tables.

You can also just extend the description field to 75.

But this means you need to change all related fields to this lenght. This is horrible to upgrade, but doable.

To test it, make an item with a long description and test all processes.

I know in the UK navision extends all the textfields to 50 characters this way. We do the same thing in our add-on database.

It's possible, but you will have report and form errors for the next 2 years.

Those errors are really easy to fix though, but you will have many times that users will complain to you 'jeez you STILL haven't fixed that stupid error?!?!?!?'
