Hello guys

I went to a interview for work, and a side of do websites and database applications, they have Navision 4, and asked me if I could develop for that, small things that they want here and then, and I just ear Navision a couple of month ago, I'm not inside MS CRM components.

I'm an ASP web programmer plus a little of VB.NET, and I use Dreamweaver and Visual Studio 2005 for that, but...

...can anyone point me the right tools for developing C/AL under Navision?

I search google and I found this forum plus otherone but they are heaving some problems in theire forum, I couldn't find any tutorials in MS site found a PDF file with some ideias, that will be a start, but, how can I start developing Navision? is that like ASP or VB.NET, is it a open source that we can do whatever we wnat (guess not, cause it's Microsoft!). Does MS have Developer tools?

The 'development' environment is part of the client.

You can download a trial version from the download part of this website.

Open Navision (make sure you are NOT in the production database) and hit F12. That's where you can do Navision development . There's a pdf on the product cd called the application designers guide (I think it's something like w1w1adg.pdf) that explains most of what you need, and there's also the C/AL reference guide under the help menu.

The correct key combination is Shift+F12 or go to menu item Tools->Object Designer. 8)

It is not ASP or VB... it is Pascal... :-)

And it is "open source" - because you can change all existing C/AL code with apropriate license... (of course, you cannot change the navision interpreter...

unfortunately kine navision is not open source but rather 'shared' source as is often with proprietary software

it means not Open Source but "open source" - you can open the source... :-)

So except for the free part, and except for the executable part, the business logic is open source, as long as you have the right license .

I'm so sorry, but can anyone paste here the link to the trial of Microsoft Navision 4?

I already serached the downloads and Navision page from MS, with no luck at all

Just ask for the product cd at your work, that has the demo database and a license to play in it.
