focus on control at run time

i want to set the focus of a field or control to true at run time..that is depending upon the condition i want a certain feild to be set to focus..i have used
currform.field.activate..
but this line of code is execting the code written on the 'OnActivate' trigger of that particular field..which i do not want..i just want to place the cursor on the required field..
