Hello everybody,
I have upgraded from Navision 2.60 to Navision 4.0. Now i want to use Navision 4.0 SP1. Should i upgrade from 4.0 to 4.0 SP1? If yes how to proceed?
if i understand you right,i have just to export a fob file containing all objects of Nav 4.0 SP1 and imoprt it into Nav 4.0 and merge all the objects? So client will continue working on navision 4.0,right?
No it's not that simple. To merge object means that you take any custom work done on the old version and apply that to the new version. The standard Navision merge option in the object import worksheet will not do this for you. You will have to do this manually.
I didn't understand you!!! I'm trynig to restore a 4.0 database backup into navision 4.0 SP1. That was done successfully and i found all custom work done and that was not lost...Why should i make this custom work manually?HELP!!!
Hazem, all you just did was upgrade the executables. There are 2 upgrades, one is the executables (which you just did) and the other is the actual object upgrade, which takes some time.
I just uninstalled 4.0 while leaving the database directory intact. I then installed SP1 from the CD and pointed it to the database and selectd the proper installation optionc (commit cache, TCP, etc). After I installed SP1 client and launched it, Navision asked me if I wanted to upgarde the database. Of course I clicked "Yes" and it has been running great so far. All of my custom reports, forms, object and everything transfered right over.
I was just wondering, is there any way Navision could have taken care of all of this merging of object all by itself?
There are two parts to the upgrade. one is client, executable upgrade, which you did. The second part is importing the SP1 objects, which you still need to do. If you have any of the Sp1 modified, you need to merge them.

Actually, nothing transferred over, you just opened a 4.0 database with 4.0 SP1 and it converted it. The database is still the same physical file with the same bjects and data in it. You just made it so you can open it with 4.0 SP1 executables.
Oh well if that's the case then I need to have the default database from a fresh install of SP1 and merge these objects with the ones from the original database correct?
Correct. But don't do it with the merge option of the import worksheet, that will NOT do it the right way. A full upgrade with object merge has to be done manually, one object at a time.
