Problems with the Navision Help in MBS 3.70A

david.gerdaudavid.gerdau Member Posts: 20
Hello,

I'm having a Problem with Helpfile of the MBS Navision 3.70A Client.
If I open the Navision Client i can open the Help (F1) only once. If I close the Helpfile without restarting the Navision Client I get the error "Page can't be displayed". Then I've to restart the Navision client to open the helpfile again.
For me it seems to be something with the MS Internet Explorer configurations . If you know the configurations i have to make on clients side i would be pleased if you led me know.

David

P.S. The client is running Windows XP pro. And no grouppolicy is configured

I never had the problem, but I think the easiest way is to de-install and re-install Navision.

    just a thought ...

Try to do "START"/"Run" and type fin.exe (of finsql.exe for sql server option). Navision will start ... and see if you still have got the error...

To reinstall navision was my first opinion, too. but that doesn't help.
And sure. If i restart Navision i get access to the helpfile once. But after that i've to restart again to start the helpfile.
It must be something with the Configurations of MS IE. Because, If you start the helpfile you have under options the IE Options to configure the chm viewer.
    But thanks for your Posts

    Ahh. I forgot to tell.
If I do the same thing on the the Server it works fine. Its just anything on the clients side. But I've configured nothing in the group policies.

I know. The funiest thing is that, running MBS Navision 4.01 the Problem with the Helpfile doesn't exist anymore. Unfortunately my customer won't buy an upgrade to 4.01 only to solve this problem. ;-)

Buy? Doesn't he pay some kind of maintenance to receive it for free?

You don't have to do an upgrade to be able to run with the new client ...

I don't need to do an technical Update of the database to run Navision 4.01 instead of 3.70A with the old database and of course the old navision license??? Surely i have to import a backup of the old database in a new one.
And i don't think that the licensefile is still working with nav 4 SP1.
And the service of the update and the new license is what the customer has to pay for.

the only thing you need is that fin.exe of SP1 ... you can open your 4.00 db with it. The client will ask you to convert.

Off course, upgrade the server as well ...

I won't ever convert a database. We had serveral Problems with this. making a backup of the old one and import this into the new database is our only proved way to upgrade a Navision Database. But this is not the point. The customer won't buy the new license. So anyway i have to find a solution for this problem.

OK, so in Germany it's different.

In Belgium, we update the customer's license to a new version for free (if they pay for maintenance to M$). The work it involves (installing clients, upgrading server, upgrading objects, ...) they have to pay, off course... .

    Some other things:
-have you that problem only with 1 PC or more (if one PC, try to re-install the PC)
-Have you still the problem with 3.70B? If not you can upgrade to 3.70B (only the fin.exe; not the objects)

I have this problem on 5 Workstation. So reinstall the whole PC isn't a option. I will try 3.70B. Hopefully it will work. Thx

No, it is same, it seems, that customer is not paying maintenance fees... :-)

Unfornatuly the 3.70B Client Version is also not working.
I think it has nothing to do with navision itself. More with the configurations for helpfiles in general.

    Hi,
Can you run any chm file manually?
Does exist any another master.chm file on your computer?
What security rules are in IE?

I can run any chm file manually without problems.
I also think that it would be something with the IE Security. The Problem is that i cant configure the IE Security beneath the middle configuration. It seems to be restricted by any source but i cant say by which. I've looked on the Global Policy but there's nothing configured depending on the IE Security.
