I post this question because i want to know if someone have the right answer on SQL Server and NAVISION 3.70.
My question is quite simple but the answer seems to be very difficult :
Do i need CAL SQL licences for the users who are using finsql.exe client. Some people from Microsoft say YES, Others from MBS say NO (include in granule 2010). As i have 60 users on NAVISION, do i need 60 CAL SQL licences.
Regards,
JML

Yes, you need 60 SQL CAL or buy CPU licence(s)

That's what i thought but is there someone who is using Navision SQL SERVER 2000 without any SQL CAL LICENCE. At this time MBS will try to contact MBS in USA to get an answer because it is the service on the server which use SQL connection and not finsql so it seems that you do not need any SQL CAL LICENCE.
As soon as i get an answer, i will post it!0 -
i get a mail from MBS France. It says that :
YOU DO NOT NEED ANY SQL CAL LICENCES WHEN USING FINSQL CLIENT TO ACCESS THE SQL DATABASE.
you need one if you use another application like Excel to connect to the Navision database.0 -
YES u need to have 60 CAL licences.keeping mouth shut and eyes and ears wide open ;-)0

Hello,
Who said this to you, i have a mail from microsoft which say NO.
(NO SQL SERVER CAL, i don't mean CAL WINDOWS).0 -
So do you now have definite evidence one way or the other lessi?0

Can anyone confirm whether SQL CALs are required for accessing a Navision/SQL system on a member server?
It would seem that SQL CALs shouldn't be required if the SQL database is technically only being accessed by the Navision Server service on the Server - hell, we're going to be paying enough for Navision Licenses without having to match it in SQL CALs too.
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

SQL database is accessed by each Navision client. If you use MS SQL option, there is no Navision server service on server.
So you have to have SQL CALs

Thanks for the information, however, doesn't that contradict the earlier statement that lessi received from Microsoft France?
A SQL 2000 CAL in addition to every Navision license, with both products owned by Microsoft?
Surely that would mean that only businesses already kitted out for SQL access, or with a particularly strong reason to implement a SQL system outside of Navision, would opt for SQL over the native C/SIDE DB?
Any ideas? Thanks.Milton FC
