Protection of License file?

Hi.
We are plannig to use Navision for courses at university and aren't yet too familiar with the administratrion. Since quite a number of students wants to work on the Navision system, here is what we are wondering:
Navision puts an exact copy of the license (flf) file in the program directory (server AND client), where users could potentially copy and re-use it.
Does anyone know how the file can be protected ?
Setting NTFS permissions doesn't work: Is a Terminal Server installation the only possible alternative ?
Thanks !
Mark

Hi Mark,
If you are connecting to a server (Native or SQL) there is no need to put the license file in the client directory on the workstations.

The client does not need any license if it connect to the server.
But : the user can copy the license file if he has the access to the Tools, Licence form.
So : You have to use the user roles to define this access to the license. My candle burns by both ends, it will not last the night,
But oh my foes and oh my friends, it gives a lovely light0 -
Is it the Cronus.flf of a real commercial license file you're worried about?0

I haven't tested this but I am pretty sure that if you install a navision client and do NOT install any other license file than the Cronus.FLF that comes along with the installation then you can start the client and go to Functions, License information and then select "Change". Then point to the license file that you actually want to use (have it on a floppy or a network drive) and then select the database that you want to use. Now this client will temporarily run on the license-file you pointed to, but this licens-file will NOT exist on the client machine and thus cannot be copied.
At least that is what I think will happen. You should test it! 8)
Note:
When you exit the client it will revert to using the cronus.flf license and you will have to do the above again when you re-start the client.Best regards

You cannot EXPORT licence from SERVER - export save only local client licence (cronus if not changed)... 8) if client has no access into server directory (where server licence lies) there is no way to get the licence file...0
