NAV Password retrieval

There is only one single super user of the db, is it possible to retrieve the user password in NAV.?

    Depends on the version. Up to 3.70 it was possible, other wise you need to restore from your last backup

    Do you mind sharing how? I just came accross an old database, but all passwords are lost. It's a 3.60 database.

    Sure. When you go to log in, just enter ???????????????? (20 x ?) as the user ID. This will give you a special code. You contact Microsoft with this code, and they will tell you the password.

    in the older versions..
    After the backup is completed in Navision, users are not logged out. Logging users out after the backup is completed would not improve security. This is because they can always create a new database, give themselves all the permissions they want, and then restore the backup into the new database. A user who was automatically logged out after a backup and restore would have all the permissions needed to log back in to the new, restored database because a security system in the backup does not replace a security system already in the database you restore into, unless you tell it to.

    But as after the restoration also the security system doesnot changes..is there any other way to retrieve the password of a user.

    its a 3.6 db and the code of ?????...doesnot works ...can u give a solution?

    Remember this does not give you the passwords of other users.
    The :?: technique is mainly used when you've forgotten your password and your the superuser.

    It give you a code in a pop-up box that you give to the dealer, etc

    I am expecting Diptish to come back at any moment now and tell us that he has a SQL database :shock:

    Anyway Diptish WHY do you need the password? Is this a live DB? In that case you should have been on the phone with Microsoft the instant this happened, since its a long time now that the company can not access their system. If its your local database, then probably you need to restore a backup.

    Hi David..

    :o Its not a SQL database.....secondly............ O:) its not a live database also (as of right now)....after a long time the company wants to restart navision all over again...they stopped using the same a long time back and the administrator of the company has left...so the password of the super user also.. :lol:

    However I have NAV SP3 client and after restoration of the old backup of 3.6 db and using the 20? is also not working....

    If you have a backup of DB, you have to do Restore and after restore (But do not close Navision), you are able to change users/passwords. Make a new superuser with a password.

    If your DB is 3.60, do a restore with 3.60 client executables (no 4.0 SP3 or similar). There's a lot of changes between these two versions even in executables so, I suggest first to do a restore with 3.60 client, make changes and then consider move to 4.0 executables.
