I needed to reconfigure my database files, so I did a backup of the database, deleted the files, took the Cornus database from the install cd, and copied it to my data directory, imported all my objects, expanded and created the new database files I needed. Restored everything, and it is back up and running. So far so good.
All users setting have been lost, even thought they still have their zup file intack, no menu shortcuts, all the columns reset to defualts.
is there a link between the database files and the zup file. from the users prespected nothing changed, they are opening the database from the server, same company name, same client, same startup, no desktop were changed
complete detail - Nav 4.0, no services packs, native database
I didn't change any program files, simply stopped the server service, deleted the database files, first file name database.fdb, new database has the same first file name, database.fdb
no server names chagned, once the database was created, restarted the server service and backup and running.
I had 14 database parts, database, and database1 through database13 also, each 2 gig in size.
new database is database, database1, database2 and database3, each 7 gigs in size.

User menus are stored in table user Menu Level.
Why you didn't restore directly objects from old backup?
If objects has different time stamp then zup files related to that object is lost.0 -
Please note that if your path and database name is same and you have done all this after stopping the server services then zup file setting should not be lost. There must be some change in your case may be the company name and user setup etc.Mukesh Sharma0

I inported all my objects so that when I did the restore I didn't receive the error, table data can't be modified because table is not empty.
When I restored the database, I did also restore the objects, anyways so that is not the problem0 -
database name and company name are identical.muksha wrote:Please note that if your path and database name is same and you have done all this after stopping the server services then zup file setting should not be lost. But I did have to redo the windows logins, as no users where setup after the restore of the database. I use windows authitication, so I did have to use tools --> security --> windows login and then use the look up to select all the users again
I was suprised I had to do this, I thought the users would all be in the backup. Which was a complete backup, I selected all objects, ect to be backed up.0 -

Can you run table "User Menu Level" if you had changed logins, user menus sould be empty.0 -
in my live company it now has all the users listed in the user menu level table, but then again I did have to reenter them, and they have been spending the morning gets there setting back.nunomaia wrote:..

but in my test database, which I did the same backup restore procedure on. the User Menu Level table # 2000000061 is empty, so it appears that the user table and the user menu level table are not covered in the backup and restore routine.
I noticed that the only user entries that are saved in the user table 2000000002, are for database logins, not windows logins
so my user table, only has two entries in it, a database login for odbc, and a database login for myself, both of which I setup after the restore.
the user menu table 2000000061, has one or two entries for each of the windows logins and the database logins:
User Restrictions - one entry
User Changes - one entry0 -
Off topic for a sec - you say
"no service packs"
Is it you don't have them or you haven't implimented them?0 -
have not implemented them, quotes have been about $1200 to give us an estimate on appling service packs. since none held additional new feature we could use, have not been willing to spend $1200 just to find out how much it will cost to actually do it. the 1200 is just to provide the quote, not the work, and doesn't apply to doing the work. If we were on sql, would probably go to SP3 since that seems to be an important update for sql usersSavatage wrote:Off topic for a sec - you say

I don't know if there is a bug in NAv 4.0 without any SP, but windows login should also be had been backup.
Navision before 4.0 SP2 has many issues (costing, item tracking, etc).
I don’t know if have any problems with Navision …0 -
