Adjust cost alternative

Hi,
We are using Navision Attain 3.11A running on native database. We are trying to run Adjust Cost (Inventory, Periodic Activities, Adjust Cost - Item Entries) but the process is taking forever to finish. I run it on a Staturday afternoon and comes Monday, the process is not yet finished. Needless to say, I cannot allow it to go on while there are users trying to access the system as Adjust Cost seems to lock the Item Card table.
Is there an laternative to this process. I notice that there is no filter available to limit the process to only selected items. Is there a way to use filters to limit the scope of the process and maybe do the adjusting batch by batch?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I personally never heard of 3.11A - but I do remember posts way back when about an occuring "infinite loop" Do you find your batch job getting stuck on a particular item? You can search the forum for "Adjust Cost".
2nd has this ever been run before to completion?
3rd If not how many years are we talking about?
4th do you have a huge database or many many items?
I have noticed that an upgrade in server really cut into the time this report used to take. Ours used to take 3+ hrs - now it's about 20 mins.
Splitting the database onto multiple disks helped the speed too.
Also, I only run it directly from the server to get the max speed the server can put out.
Wait to you see how long Posting to G/L will take :-#
We try to do this bi-weekly so it doesn't get to the point where you seem to be now.0 -

Not at all.Savatage wrote:3rd If not how many years are we talking about?

File size is 2.5GB, Inventory item count: approx. 50K.Savatage wrote:Splitting the database onto multiple disks helped the speed too.
Is there a guide how to do this?Savatage wrote:Also, I only run it directly from the server to get the max speed the server can put out.
I'm doing this already and on weekends too.Savatage wrote:Wait to you see how long Posting to G/L will take :-#
And I thought I already saw the worst of it.
Thanks so much for the info.0 -
In partersource there is a hotfix for a infinite loop in adjust . Check it with your current NSC.
Even for 2 years sould'nt taken that long.0 -
2.5GB isn't that huge - 25Gb is another story
So It shouldn't take forever
-the infinite loop fix would be the first thing i try
Then don't wait so long till the next time you run it. 8)
Version 3.10B isn't so bad - 3.10A0 -

Thanks for the tips. Just wondering if backing up and restoring the database again will improve the speed a bit or does it?0 -
If you haven't run adjust costs - I can assume you have never optimized your tables either. That's basically what a backup & restore will do for you along with verifying some data. 2.5GB shouldn't create a speed issue. If you are having speed issues you will need to post your server's & network specs.
File->Database->Information->Tables (button)->Select tables->Optimize (Button)

2.5GB it's a entry database size for Navision0

Just a few small suggestions, setup up a test company, load your backup into it, then start your adjust cost entries routine, and see how long it actually takes, it may be just three days, so then you could plan on running it on the next holiday weekend, start it at 5:01 pm or when ever you close for business on friday.
but in any case, you need to see if it will run to completion, or if it is stuck in an loop. only way to tell is to let it run longer then you have been. which the test company will allow you to do.
once it has run successfully, then the next time will be a lot fasters. and you can keep up with it.0 -
If it's an infinite loop problem, then the system will eventually run out of database size and exit with an error. So if you want to test it out on a test server, create a smaller database so you can know quickly if it's an infinite loop error.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog
