Commerce Portal Oddities

Hello Everyone,
I have a client that has a commerce portal setup. This setup was originally established by a company called DVP in Canada. They decided to stop supporting the system as soon as I came on board (not that they don't like me, just some unfortunate timing), so I am trying to figure out exactly how commerce portal works.
The problem I am having is this :
The client will try to create new contacts and change the passwords from navision, and they still cannot login to the web portal. No changes made in navision actually make it to the web portal.
If I try to force synchronization of the contact table, it runs up to 49% and then disappears without an error.
If I force synchronization of any other tables, they run all the way to 100%, but then the web portal breaks until we reboot both the commerce portal server and the navision server.
I also now have certain merchandise, when it is ordered from the commerce portal web site, that gives odd quantities. I.E. the customer orders 2 and they might get 5 or 8 as a quantity, but the quantity to ship/invoice is legitimate. Nothing has changed in code (I verified timestamps on all codeunits etc to make sure nobody in house was tampering).
A few months ago the client hired a company to add an Exchange Server fix to the Active directory schema, but I am not sure if this would affect anything.
Also, I cannot find any articles or development guides for commerce portal on the dynamics site. I may not know where to look though. If anyone has any resources that gives an overview of the structure or even more detailed information would be great.

Check the decimal symbol option field in Commerce Portal Setup.
I've done a ton of work on commerce portal and there are a 'ton' of undocumented issue which you need to look at to get it working properly.
I also re-wrote the replication codeunit to be dynamic so I did not have to edit cost when ever I added a new field to the portal
