Strange permission error

Hi.

I have a client who experiences some difficult behaviour. He's running Nav 4.0.
He is using 2 different pc's to do his work. On one one them he's is getting an access denied (permission) error, on the other he is not.
He uses databaselogon and he has super userrights. He is using the same login on both the machines yet the error persists. Both machines are running Windows 2K. There are no license files on any of the machines, they are getting the license from the server.

Has anyone experienced this behaviour and knows what causes it?

    SQL or Native?
    Did you try to synch?
Or they both in the same domain/workgroup?

    Hi Waldo.

    It is native DB.

Both machines are on the same domain/workgroup. I came to the conclusion that is was the machine itself that caused the error. I would just like to know what on the machine causes it.

    Since I've seen this before:
Does the user log-in using the server? Or is he trying to open the database through a serverpath?
If that is the case, probably the server has the database locked causing the error. If you are more unlucky he manages to logon and keep the server and thus all other users out of the database.

And one thing: Check the .exe versions, if both PC's have same client version and build.

Perhaps you could post the exact text of the error, in case there is anything specific that someone could recognize to help?

I haven't checked the .exes but they should be the same.

The database isn't locked and the other users can login and all.

The problem must be related to the machine.

They connect exactly 100% the same way?

Yep. They connect the exact same way. That's what's so frustating. They logon to the same database with the same credentials.

    Probably useless question, but ..

Are you sure they connect to a database server (service), not a database file (fdb)?

    pobably a silly question:

Do they have sufficant number of licenses, either client access licenses on server OS or Navision user licenses?

    Hi again.

Yup, there are sufficient licenses all around.

    You got a strange problem.

You did synchronize the security, you are connecting the same way, but you got other permissions ... :-k

    Did you try to debug?

Have you tried to manually change the license on the problem machine, through License Information...Change?
There is no data, only bool!

I haven't tried changing the license manually.

I don't know if can try it at all. I don't know if I'll come out the customer again.

Thanks for all the replies though.

Try deleting the ZUP file. All sorts of weird errors can be fixed by doing this...
