retaining the print format printing to a generic/txt printer

I am using a document imaging system that has cold. Cold requires the print output to be in a fixed posiitional text format for archival purposes. The best way to do this is to print to the generic/text printer, but all my formatting is loss when printing from Navision(only). I suspect that the print esc codes are being loss. Does anyone know of a way to amke this happen without creating dataports and modifying the report.

COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk) ?0

Yes that is what cold means. It is being used somewhat generically in this instant, since the the print files can be store to any type disk system on a networked server. The imaging system(cold function) needs the print file in a formatted text form in order to properly interpret the data for indexing. My problem, is getting Navsion or the generic/text print from Navision to retain the format of the report when printed to file.0

I'm not positive on this but when you change the fonts on a report it is going to change/move fields around & over.
Perhaps you will have to redesign your report using a generic text such as COURIER NEW as your guide.0 -
Thanks for the reply. I would like to do this with any report that I print from Navision. The effort of redesigning every report is in my opinion defeating the purpose. I will try and find a printer driver online that will work.0

I'm not too familiar with COLD but can you save a report as a PDF & then save it laser disc?
It would seem that any report (not just a navision report) would change it's format once printed to generic text printer so how do you handle other apps?0 -
You are correct. This happens with most other apps, but some apps give you a way to pass control codes or interpret control codes to work with the generic text printer. This actual seems to be more of a print driver issue rather than a Navision Print issue. I have after much research found a solution with an online printer driver that works wonderfully. It's called Miraplacid Text driver at http://www.miraplacid.com/. It allows you to print to a virtual text printer and retains all your formatting. Nice product for the price(39-25 dollars) depending on number of users needed.0
