Isn't it some kind of tax? I've heard that Canada has some interesting taxes where even the tax is taxed, maybe that's it?0

yep, provincial sales taxes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_Canada
but I have no idea if it is supported by the us - version.0 -
The "North American" version of Navision supports United States, Canada, and Mexico. The database is setup with four language codes (ENU, ENC, FRC, ESM), will handle Canadian and U.S. taxes (mostly the same), as well as Mexican taxes (which I understand are just VAT).
PST is Provincial sales tax, and is used in most provinces in Canada. Each province uses different rules for collecting and remitting these taxes. Alberta doesn't collect PST, and Quebec does charge tax on tax.
Feel free to PM me for further details.Kristopher Webb

Wow, then who decided when it ends?
What about the Tax of the Tax on Tax or the tax for that :roll:0 -

*lol* It's just two taxes. The Provincial tax (PST) and the Federal tax (GST). Every province gets to bill the Federal and Provincial (if they have it), but Quebec gets to calculate the GST rate on the PST or vice-versa (I can never remember which way it goes...). So it isn't a perpetual loop thing. *hehe*Kristopher Webb

We have a client who has a Canadian subsidiary. The Subsidiary logs on to NZ database, ie using the AUNZ database which doesn't handle PST.
As only 1 database is used does that means having to customise what is 'standard' North American version to the AUNZ version.
Hmmm... how about making all the localised change as a possible add on to any other localised version.0 -
When they say "tax on Tax", its just terminology.
If an item is sold at $100, and has 5% Sales tax, and 3% VAT, then there are two ways of calculating this.
The "normal" way, is that sales tax is 5% of 100 and VAT is 3% of 100, so $8.00 tax in total.
In the "Tax on tax" scenario, the Sales tax is $5.00, but the VAT is then calculated as 3% of the Price inclluding tax i.e. $105.00 x 3% or $3.15, so total tax is $8.15.
If you follow through the logic, then "tax on tax" sort of makes sense, but its just silly. Especially if you need to try to work out who's tax gets charged first, since the toal tax becomes the same, but the distribution is different.
It really is not anything too complex.David Singleton0 -

I believe the North American version is modified from the World-Wide version. I haven't done a review recently to know all the changes between the two. But traditionally (thinking back to v2.60), to handle the taxes, Navision US would make changes to the world-wide version, and then Navision CA would make further changes. The tax setups got totally rewritten for Attain, which would allow for VAT/Sales Tax to coexist in the one database. Thus was was born the "North American" version. So I would think that you could have the same tax setup in your AUNZ version so long as there wasn't conflicting regional customizations. A bit of a review would be required.
From what I know of VAT, it is supposed to handle multiple taxes as well, so I would think the setups cannot be that far off. The big requirement would be to make sure that the taxes are collected such that they can be remitted to the proper government bodies (for each province in Canada, that gets a little tricky as well), as well as listing the descriptions on the Canadian invoices as "Sales Tax" not "VAT".Kristopher Webb
