Navision 3.70 & MS Vista

Hello,

We're running Navision 3.70 on a SQL Server.
Recently we installed a computer with MS Vista RC1.
And to my horror, it wont run the navision client. :|

is there any news on this? I searched this forum and the web but couldnt find an answer.

    Yes, 3.70 is not compatible with Vista now. But for example 4.00SP2 with Critical update 3 is not compatible too (problems with non-existing text in .stx file). The workaround in my article doesn't solve this problem. I assume that SP3 for 4.00 will be compatible with Vista, but I am not sure, if 3.70 will be supported on Vista. I hope that it will...

    I don't think they would dare to break it in the final version. I'm completely able to use version 2.0a (1997, maybe?) at my XP SP2. I see no reason why Vista should not support 3.7. Maybe not the first released version, but Vista SP1 a year later.

    Do you have any special reason why will you need to use Vista as long as XP works fine? Many folks still use Win2000 and have no prob about it. All the HW and SW I find in stores is labeled as Win2000/XP.

    Many people will buy Vista jast because it is something new. After that, they found that applications are not compatible. And biggest disappointment will be, that Microsoft applications are not compatible with Microsoft OS... 8)

    The only way we get Vista here is because its pre-installed on new computers.

    in the past we losely talked about upgrading our navision 3.70 to 4.0 but we have a lot of special programming in our 3.70 which would could not work correctly in 4.0 thus would require lots of modifying which would result in very high costs. Those engineers arent free :(

    So if 3.70 isnt supported we're screwed. Either every new computer must be re-installed with XP or we get a big bill for upgrading :evil:

    I'm sure that if 3.7 should not be supported (but we don't know yet) you can easily do a technical upgrade in a couple of hours.

    The worst case is you will have to use a new client, but can use that with the old business logic and database quite fine.

    Actually, you should do it now - using a new client is always beneficial, because there are perfomance gains, less internal errors... etc.

    One thing I would recommend is that if you do a technical upgrade especially on sql to recompile all your objects.

    com variable. I have ran in weird errors on that were solved through recompiling objects.
