Are there any differences between using UK and US English

Can anyone advise if there are any differences between UK English and US English.

Just about to start on a European rollout for a UK headquartered company and need to let the UK guys access the foreign countries.

Our NSC is saying to use US English on all the companies. Will this have any impact on the UK company itself other than perhaps some differences in spelling.

Thanks for the advice

Oliver

You'll find most captions are the same, but there are some exceptions. For instance, the Post Code field is captioned 'ZIP Code' in US English, the County field is captioned 'State' in US English. There is a difference though, between the US English language layer in the W1 version and the US English language layer in the US version. So some of those captions in the W1 version of US English actually say different things than the US captions in the US version.

If you need UK captions, I would say that you should go with the UK English language layer. The language layer does not affect functionality, unless of course you consider a different caption to be different functionality

Does the UK version have tea instead of coffee?

One of the biggest differences is USA drops the u in words ending with "or"

And maybe Accounting Schedules are called Accountancy Schedules? :D:D:D

There is surely a difference in functionality however, David Cox in another topic mentioned that forms with date periods work on different periods in the UK localization than months due to 4-4-5 accounting.

But that has nothing to do with the language layer, that is because of the UK localization.

Be very careful importing and exporting language layers by the way. It is not just captions that are included. For instance, the page names on tab controls is captured in the captionML properties, and if you import an existing language layer into a modified database you can lose tabs.

For instance, if you add a tab to the Item card in the W1 version, it adds that pagename to the captionML property for the default language (in my case that would be ENU). If I then import the ENU language layer from a US database into my database, because I want the right caption of 'ZIP code' for istance, I then lose my new tab.

You don't loose the page, you can't see it, that's different.
But the problem could happen even if you upgrade Navision (if some forms have more pages than before)

That's the reason because when i add new pages in form, the property PageNames should be written like that:
Std Page 1, Std Page 2,Std Page 3, Std Page 4, Std Page 5,,,,,,,,,Specific Page 1,Specific Page 2

if a new standard page is added, you can have :
Std Page 1, Std Page 2,Std Page 3, Std Page 4, Std Page 5,Std Page 6,,,,,,,,Specific Page 1,Specific Page 2

All pages with no names will not be shown.
My candle burns by both ends, it will not last the night,
But oh my foes and oh my friends, it gives a lovely light

Thanks for the help everyone, I thought it was just the captions that would be affected.

Luckily we are not selling tomatos or is it tomatoes
