Geographic map

I would like to know if there are solutions to link Navision's customer database to a geographic map. For instance, when one of our employees travels to visit a customer, he'd probably want to know whether others are in the vicinity. Do you know if it's possible to extend Navision this way with some kind of application (; what would you recommend then?)?

Take a look at the Automation possibilities that Microsoft MapPoint offers -with just a few lines of code, you can plot the locations of e.g. contacts onto a map, typically based on information such as post code.

Although I'm not sure I still have access to it, I will try to find my objects and post them here.

BTW, I tried in the "normal" MapPoint application, but I suppose a similar thing would be possible using the webservice.

Your objects, are they similar to those in the download section of this site? I am interested, but if so, please, don't spend too much recovering them. I don't want to bother you.

You could also build a url using your customer's address and use other websites like mapquest. If you can figure out how to set the address parameter in their web address, you can open a link to their website with the right information.

You mean something like http://www.mibuso.com/bdinfo.asp?CompanyID=1523 (when you click on the link "Show address on Map" beneath the company logo)

It's based on Microsoft Virtual Earth, where you can display a map with only the Latitude and Longitude coördinates. It's explained in more detail here: http://www.viavirtualearth.com/VVE/Arti ... V3Pt1.ashx

Where it says "address=1+microsoft+way&city=redmond&state=wa" is the part that you can program from your customer's address.

The internet services you mention are quite interesting, though I think we can't use them because (at the moment) we would like to see all customers as some kind of pushpins on 1 map. Since we have about 5000 addresses, I think those webmaps can't handle that, can they?

I did exactly what you seem to need. I exported all our customer data into an excel sheet & using MS Mappoint 2006 http://www.microsoft.com/mappoint/default.mspx
imported all the data.

It's really great.

It puts a pushpin in every customer location and I also added the salesperson data to my excel sheet and used Map Point to use different color push pins for each salesperson. This allowed us to see who's territories were overlapping

I find it well worth the price.
