HotCopy Shell 1.0
Enables you to use Navisions hotcopy-function from Windows.
It saves the last set of parameters (password if you choose - nonencrypted) and makes a log-file, where you can see every run of hotcopy.
Just place the HCS.exe-file in your Navision Server folder. No additional files are needed. Important: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 needs to be installed.
Please send any comments and/or bugreports to me.

Simply a shell, and not a very good one:
Can handle only one databasepart, so not usable for large databases with multiple parts
Can handle only one target
No TCPS support
If I press the <go> button, it does not work. If I copy and paste the line to the commandprompt (and change the password from Hidden to <password>, it works.
The commandline is used to pass the parameters. However, the parameter line has a maximum length, and with long source and destinationspaths, thing might go wrong.
The log does not say if the backup succeeded or failed.0 -
Despite these missing features (and bugs) it’s a great idea to build a hotcopy shell. I hope you’ll build a new release with the extra features Poltergeist is suggestion and I think it’s a great addition to the existing tools."Real programmers don't comment their code.
If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand."0 -
Well, I've written such a tool, with some extra's (build in scheduler, runs as service, e-mail through SMTP), so I know my way around the HotCopy.exe file. However, this tool is only available commercially through the company I work for, so unfortunatly I cannot put it up here for download...

Hi John
Nice to see that you finally got started on C#! Hope to see more from you of the same kind...
Even though the HotCopy is better used with a parameter FILE which I prefer over your commandline solution, you are on to something right.
Keep on posting!

I've got the suggenstions from Poltergeist by e-mail, and I will improve the program by these ideas along with ability to encrypt the password in the log-file. Any other suggenstions are welcome.Regards,

It saves the last set of parameters (password is encrypted!) and makes a log-file, where you can see every run of hotcopy. After run is shows the result as the entry from the event log.
Just place the HCS.exe-file in your Navision Server folder.
Important: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 needs to be installed.
