Deploying AX over WAN, Calling AX as a "deep link"

Hello,

I am new to Axapta, but I know Navision a little bit better. Deploying Navision over the WAN is possible with an employee portal or with the normal client server communication although it is not recommended to do that over WAN. Everybody recommends a VPN with a Terminal Server access on the server or in the network.

Is this also valid for Axapta client server communication?
This post says, that power user should access per Terminal Server access
with VPN. My colleague says that a WAN deployment with a direct cleint server communication is not possible. Even when there´s a 3 tier (with AOS) installation.

Another question:
In Navision there´s a possibility to call the server with a finhlink.exe file.
Is there a similar possibilty in Axapta? We want to call Axapat from another application direct in the right form. So it should be a kind of "deep link" into Axapta...

Nice idea, don´t you think?

    With little efforts, you can call Ax clients (I presume this is what you want to do) from anywhere. Few days ago I posted a way whereby one can call Ax client from command prompt. Please see my blog for more info.

    There are similar portals available in Ax too. If you haven't already looked into them, I would suggest you to do so.

    In our company we tried something similar to what you mentioned here (VPN via Citrix). A lot depends on the network bandwidth. After increasing the network, now we are testing calling AOS directly (3 tier thin client). Some key remote users have noticed positive response from Ax this way.
