Hi,
I am looking for a way to install a 3.6 client on a machine that runs Windows 2003 Server. The install can't be completed, and in Microsoft's knowledge base this issue is mentioned, however there's no solution offered (see below).
Thanks,
Hans

SYMPTOMS
When you try to install the Navision Attain client from Microsoft Business Solutions, the installation process may not complete successfully, and then you may experience one or both of the following:
The Manage Your Server Wizard is not displayed correctly. A Microsoft Internet Explorer script error may be generated.
Some components that use Microsoft Management Console (MMC) do not start correctly. For example, when you click Terminal Server Configuration or right-click My Computer, and then you click Manage, you receive the following error message:
MMC cannot open the file - c:\windows\system32\compmgmt.msc
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the Navision Attain client (versions 3.10 or 3.6) installs an earlier version of the Msxml3.dll file to a location that is different from the C:\Windows\System32 folder. When you run the regsvr32 command that is described in the "Resolution" section, this reregisters the original (newer) DLL file instead of the (older) DLL that Navision installed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reregister the Msxml3.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type CMD in the Open box, and then click OK.
Type the following command at the command prompt, where C:\Windows is the folder that Windows is installed in, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\msxml3.dll
When the command completes successfully, you receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in C:\Windows\system32\msxml3.dll succeeded.

I found this extra info:Navision (Attain) 3.60 is working on Windows 2003. But you need to install Navision Attain) 3.60, by copy the client program to the server, register the dll-files using the command regsvr32 /s naviservice.dll.
So you basically need to manually register all the dll-files you find in the client-directory, using the regsvr32 command. No support using PM or e-mail - Please use this forum. BC TechDays 2024: 13 & 14 June 2024, Antwerp (Belgium)0 -
Microsoft Management Console (MMC) fails after uninstalling Navision Attain 3.60
This problem has been observed on XP, XPsp1 and .NET rc1.
This MMC problem is caused by an old version of MSXML that was installed with Commerce Gateway.
Solution
You must re-register MSXML version 3.0. You can find the MSXML3.DLL in the \System32 folder.
Register this DLL with REGSVR32 or reinstall the server. Next you have to copy a installed 3.60 client from somewere. I had my own client on my laptop so i've copyed it to the erver.
You have also to register the naviservice.dll by hand.. you don't need to install any dll more
For me it worked, i've installed the server again (over the previous installation).

Thanks for your help - problem solved:
I fixed the MSXML3.dll as described. From an Win XP machine where the client is installed I copied the ..\Program Files\Navision Attain directory to the Windows 2003 Server. The client worked immediately.
My installation doesn't include a naviservice.dll, so there was no need to register it.

Hi all,
However, does anyone encounter these problems with Navision 4.0?
