Copy Database instead of Backup Database through Attain

Because we had an error in our database structure we cant´s make Attain backups for several weeks. Instead of this we made full Copies of our database. Is there any danger by copy the database instead of using the backup function in attain?

    Yes. The database is corrupt. This must be rectified else you may get to a stage where your client can't work anymore due to this error.

    What is the error message? There are a number of things that can be done to correct this problem. Which table is this in?

    Actually we have no more error messages.
    We have solved the problem, but we worked
    for over two weeks without backup in attain.

    Our backup was just the complete copy of
    the database. It is interesting to know if
    the copy of the database will work too instead
    of backup in attain.

    You just have to make sure that nobody is working in the database when copying the file (just turn off the service, copy, and turn the service back on), else it could be that this person looses data.

    The copied db should work just fine.

    Waldo's absolutely right. What we do is copy the database to a laptop everynight. Throw it in a fire-proof safe (Just in case) 8) and we have had no problems at all retrieving data.

    Copying the database is fine. My concern was the error in the database structure. Since this problem has disappeared, it is obviously not of any concern any more. If you do ever receive this message again, then I do not recommend you copy the database. The problem is that if the database is corrupt it needs to be dealt with as it could mean that your customer will no longer be able to access their database in extreme cases.

    if you're using attain 3.60 my advice would be to use waldo's method.

    The reason is the changelog because it uses a datatype called BigInteger on which is used a property called AutoIncrement.

    An internal value is lost during backup and results in errors when you restore the backup...
