Dear all,
I have a problem relate to the implementation in chemical industry and brewery industry. Especially preparation of BOM and routing. Please let me know if Navision has been applied in those industries ?

It seems that Navision customized and make an add-on by qurius after I browse the website. I just wonder what kind of adds on they made. Do they make some changes and the changes really successful implemented? I think it's same as pebble stone fashion that have some adds on Navision.

Yes, it is an add-on. It is implemented by several customers.
Best is to make a phonecall to qurius. Maybe ask for Ronald van Heiningen.
Tell him I said hi :-)0 -
I know now that adds on for navision is needed if navision implemented in chemical or brewery plant. But is it possible without the adds on ?
I think I won't phone qurius,

Well, the problem is that Navision uses BOMs in discrete quantities while chemical industry uses recipes in percentages, and even if you hack it, what you still have is a basic system where you turn material inventory to product inventory by posting production orders, nothing else, and this hardly worth implementing an ERP. Navision's capacitiy planning is totally useless for any industry that is not thinking in "homogenous machine centers" terms, and it lacks the sophisticated process control the chemical industry needs. Also, another problem is that Navision expects to eventually ship/receive exactly the same quantity as in the sales/purchase order, or else you have problems in the long run, and this is not feasible in this industry. So I'd suggest an add-on, or a custom development, but the later one only if you have someone who is really an expert in both ERP design and chemical industry practices, and 3-4 programmers.
(Am I getting old? A year ago I would have written "Why don't you just hack it up yourself?")
Do It Yourself is they key. Standard code might work - your code surely works.0 -
Hi Shenpen,
tku for your answs, if navision can't be used in chemical industry without some adds-on but only simple customization, could it be used in chemical mixing industry, for example in margarine industry, pharmaceutical industry, crops industry or food industry? for example, in making margarine, I know that its core process only mixing of stearine, vitamins and other additive agents and the product is margarine, and of course the qty of margarine will be in discrete number. I think if navision would be used as rough cut capacity planning and rough material resource planning, I can apply it in all types of industries. Do you agree with that ? Also, there is a calculation formula in production BOM isn't it?
