Hi All,
I'd like to get some help in this topic:
We have many clients (navision 2.6) and that clients are works good .... but in some days, some of them is not operate any longer, meanwhile the hosts and services files are set correctly. No any new program is installed, no external intervention, nothing! in this case the navi client is no works anymore.
Somebody can help me what should I do to avoid this? because in this case I have to reinstall the whole operating system!
Thank you!!!

have you checked and made sure that you could ping the server when it didn't work?0

What error you have? Some more details about the problems?0

try to put the server ip on server location instead of server name.0

check, if there is no entry with the server name in services file. If yes,it will change the portno.for comunication and the client will send packets to wrong port...0

I default use only ip address not srever name...kine wrote:check, if there is no entry with the server name in services file. If yes,it will change the portno.for comunication and the client will send packets to wrong port...
I'll try this way, because I have a shrewd idea that other progam is using the same port. But I haven't any tool to check this usage. 8-[0 -
But if you are using IP, you have no problem on client PC with port. You can have problem on server side...
Check Event log for informations...0 -

Maybe the server not receive any request from the topical client?
I check the event log...
But the interesting thing, the other clients are works correctly :roll:0 -
If other clients are working, try to indetify something, in which the working PC are different than non-working. For example look into network topology, if they are not on same segment - than the switch can do some problems. If it is random, try to look for servicepacks, settings etc, which can be different from the one on working PC (compare hosts and services files, OS version...)0

Do you have a WINS server at all? This may help but as people have said it sounds like a TCPIP problem on the server itself, check the network drivers and the Windows Event Log.Julian Harper
