Our organization is currently evaluating options for applications modernization to replace or upgrade our legacy systems. While we understand the benefits—like improved scalability, security, integration, and cost efficiency—we’re struggling to choose the right approach.

Some of the challenges we’re facing include:

  • Deciding between re-platforming, re-hosting, or complete re-architecting.
  • Managing risks around data migration and system downtime.
  • Ensuring modernization efforts align with cloud adoption and digital transformation goals.

For those who have gone through this process:

  • What strategies worked best for your organization?
  • How did you prioritize which applications to modernize first?
  • Which tools, platforms, or frameworks did you find most effective?

    How does your current solution fit in your organisation? How well is its state technically, 'under the hood'? How quick are improvements or bugfixes implemented? Do you have a good and stable tech team, that can keep supporting over the coming years?

    Our conclusion was: The ERP solution is getting more and more sluggish. certain performance issues could not be fixed by the tech team. Re-architecting and developing would take years, and the endstate would not be significanty better. Let alone the reuqests from the organisation for new features, cloud enabling etc. And the last point: the knowledge lays only with two people, so a great risk. Thats why we decided for a slow and controlled migration to BC. Replatforming.
