Hi,

Trying to install NAV2013 RTC client on local workstation. Ran setup from a copy of the NAV2013 stored on the file server - got the following errors in the installation log:

A database with name Demo Database NAV (7-0) already exists. Delete this database in SQL Server Management Studio, run setup.exe again, and then click Repair.

User has local admin permissions on her machine.

I then copied the contents of the NAV2013 installation DVD files from the directory that supposedly couldn't be read on the server to the local machine and ran SETUP from there. RTC client installed perfectly.

Any ideas on why we can't run SETUP successfully from a shared location on the server?

Check the file properties and read permissions of the user on the directories and files.
Another thing to try is to assign a driver letter to the folder on the server. I have seen situations where this did help

Already running this from a drive letter, even though the messages don't read that way (have tried multiple times with multiple paths with same results).

It seems that the file properties and read permissions would have to be correct because the entire directory was easily copied to the local drive with no errors. If the user didn't have read permissions, the files couldn't be read/copied. Why/what circumstances would exist that would allow the user to do a file copy but the Install process not? And, it could only not copy certain files - it didn't fail on all of the files in those directories - just certain ones.

Nav Tech support has said so far "Generally speaking when installing we recommend having the installation files local as this tends to eliminate pathing and permission issues on the network." But the Help files clearly state "if you are installing over your network, navigate to the directory containing the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 Setup program and run Setup.exe, the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Setup wizard." No explicit instructions to use a mapped drive letter or anything.

So far, it sounds like they think the reason is a cross between an elephant and a rhinoceros = "elifino" <small joke>.

    Ron,
Can you try to reduce the path on the share to \\server\home\MS\NAV2013\Dynamics.NAV70.NA.1287514.DVD ? The long path could be an issue, even if I have no technical idea yet what can be the exact reason (installer, server, ...).

    Cheers,
    Carsten

Thank you SilverX, the problem was for the long path. I uninstall all, change the instalation CD to a shorter path and then installed succestully.
