Adobe Reader loaded via control add-in stopped working after Windows security update

We use the Adobe Reader to view pdf files from within NAV and it's been working great for the past year and a half, however, with the most recent Windows security update (KB5003637) it stopped working. The odd part is that it's only happening to some but not all PC's. Has anyone else experience similar issues? Our only choice right now is to remove the offending update but we want to avoid that.

Hello Tony_NCD,
looks like the issue is known by Adobe.
See here:

A possible workaround is in the same thread:

Hi Aluan,
Thank you for the suggestion. Interestingly, in the possible workaround, they were suggesting compiling the app as a 32bit app. The NAV client is a 32bit app and so is the reader. I tried a basic iframe to simulate the loading in NAV and tried opening it with Chrome, Edge, and IE. All 3 works fine yet, for whatever reason, NAV doesn't. Right now, I'm trying to install older versions of Adobe Reader DC, to see if it works.0 -
Aluan, you the man! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. The NAV executable is Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.exe, located under the Program Files (x86) folder, so I assumed it was a 32bit app. I thought NAV might be using the WebBrowser control which has a registry hack that we could tell it which version of IE but it needed the name of the exe thus I went to this folder to copy the name. It was here that I noticed the existence of a Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.x86.exe file. I tried running that instead and it solved my problem!
Instead of updating the shortcut on every person's station, for which there may be several, I came up with a batch file that renames the exe. For those who are interested, below is the command. Be sure to run it as an administrator. The pause was added to let us know whether the command succeeded or not.
ren "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\100\RoleTailored Client\Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.exe" Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client64.exe
ren "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\100\RoleTailored Client\Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.x86.exe" Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.exe
