Try Code 128, Type B. If you have diacritics like è and é, you may even switch to a mode supporting extended ASCII (ISO 8859-1). This is an extension, though, and I did not find info in the specifications you linked to whether this particular device supports it.
An alternative, supporting ASCII only, is Code 39. It's easier to encode, but takes up more space.0
