NAV CU only updating "some" objects

Our production environment is currently on NAV 2016 CU 3. We need the new RTC/server executables of NAV 2016 CU 34 to be able to connect to and sync with CRM online. However, because we have a lot of customized objects, updating and merging all objects to CU34 would be very time consuming (close to an entire upgrade to NAV 2018...).

I prepared a test setup with the current CU (34), but did not import any objects. Everything still seems to work fine now, and sync with CRM online also works.

But before we change anything in our production environment: Is this scenario advisable? Maybe it's bad practice and we will run into other problems? Any advice?

    if it works, it works... I have done this a lot.

    We use a more recent NAV CU platform in combination with older CU NAV standard objects too. We cherry-pick the application fixes from the higher CU and merge them with our application objects.
