changing extension does not recover data

When I uninstall and unpublish and change the extension and creating new NAVX, then when i install it back , this does not recover the data in the fields that include extension.
Any help.

is it V1 extension?
did you write upgrade codeunit?

Yes i am including upgrade codeunit with extension and added NAVAPP.Restorearchive code in it. It does not give error but does not restore data as well.

this happens when i make a change and then reinstall. the data gets recovered when i do not make any change and just uninstall , unpublish and republish and reinstall.

The data does not recovered when i make a change and create new navx file.

Do i need to do anything on target database when i am installing the extension?

Adding a new field in table and page and all other objects within extension stay same. Then when install it in target database i think its treating as new extension

To be honest even if i dont make any change but recreate new navx with exactly same objects then still i get same issues

ok i was deleting the manifest file thereby nav was taking it as new extension.
