Adjust/define interval for posting to the item ledger

In the article https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh173230(v=nav.90).aspx it's said that "... the quantities are not automatically posted to the item ledger. At appropriate intervals as defined by company policy, you must post the entries in the adjustment bin to the item ledger..."
My question is: Where do I define these intervals for calculating the inventory? Or should I always calculate them manually?

You don't define it anywhere - you just calculate/adjust it as often as is appropriate for your company.5
