Has any body used ODBC driver for NAV 2009. I am trying to set it up first in ODBC Data Source Administrator in Windows. I got the ODBC driver installed but when I am trying to setup the 'database name' box is greyed out no matter what I do.
After setting it up , how many ways I can use this?

Any one used ODBC for NAV ever?United Kingdom0

Isn't this depending on the type of server? As I recall the 'classic' C/SIDE server can only serve one database - so it would not make sense to select both server name and database name.
I used NAV ODBC once with little success.... we had two columns in a table with different names but with exactly the same caption ; ODBC crashed on that. Never used it again.
I did on 1 or 2 occasions use SQL ODBC to read info from a NAV database. It was very slow on large databases.Jan Veenendaal0 -
Hi Jan
So you are saying its better not to use the ODBC? My problem is when I setup an ODBC connection for NAV in the User DSN setup available in the ODBC Data Source Administrator 32bit (accessed from Control Panel). I see a box for entering server name, database name and a company name. Database name box always stays disabled when I enter server name , but company name box stay open.
Why I don't have all the boxes open?
What I want to do is to give my boss a solution to use excel and get the flowfields in the excel query and I thought only way possible was to user ODBC connection for NAV.United Kingdom0 -
Excellent point Jan brings up - is your NAV database on SQL, or is it a native NAV database service?Kyle Hardin - ArcherPoint0

That Database is on SQL ServerUnited Kingdom0

The user must have a login to SQL Server which is connected to an SQL user on the NAV Database. Also with Enhanced Security, SQL permissions on tables might be an issue.
Try SQL Server Management Studio or another SQL query tool with the credentials you use for the ODBC connection first.0 -
I have sysadmin (windows logon) to SQL. I dont see any issue with logon.United Kingdom0
