Understanding Document Date

I would like to know more about Document Date on Sales Order.
For example, we create Sales Order with Document Date 11-02-2016,
Then we do Posting Warehouse Shipment with Posting Date 15-02-2016.
What would happen after that, Document Date and Posting Date on Sales Order is overridden with 15-02-2016.
Furthermore, when we change the Posting Date on Sales Order, also will change Document Date without any confirmation.
It’s understandable if Posting Date on Sales Order is overridden when we do Posting Warehouse Shipment.
But for Document Date, we assume the Document Date will not be overridden.
Because as our understanding, Document Date is to identify when a document was created.
What is the reason NAV doing such action ?
Please advise.

I the case of Sales Order, the Document Date determines the document date on the Sales Shipment or Sales Invoice created from the order when something is posted. It is not meant to stay static.
Use Order Date to record the date, the order got effective, which usually should be the date you received the order, in some cases also the date you create the sales order document or the date, the order was issued or confirmed by the customer.6 -

Thanks for your suggestion. So, we better not to use document date to record document creation date.

Use Order Date to record the date, the order got effective, which usually should be the date you received the order, in some cases also the date you create the sales order document or the date, the order was issued or confirmed by the customer.
