Hi folk!
First of all I posted a question in SQL Forum just asking about AlwaysOn functionallity, related with this post.

Our company will start a business in another country, so we use NAV today and we want to use NAV in the new installation.

Business should work by separate (accounts, general ledger, ...) but some data should be shared, for example item stocks in both location.
Other data should be also be available to "query" from one company or both (payable accounts, for exemple).

A part from that, we don't know how to make and where to locate the new installation... in primary headquarters, in the new location or just sincronize both databases or should we use only one if we want to share data like LOCATIONS?

Do you have experience in this type of installations and setup?
We will meet our partner and let them analyse and explain their proposal but we would like to know if they proposal is the most usual one.

Thanks
Carles

    Hi Carles,

these discussions are always the most interesting ones, what to share over companies, what to keep separate, and how to set it up.
If more replies come in, I would not be surprised if they have different solutions.

My philosophy is that NAV should represent real life as much as possible.
Trying to create 1 NAV company containing 2 (or more) legal entities is tricky. SAP is much more suited for that. Take the the different VAT-setup for different companies as an example where you potentially, as the English say, "open a can of worms".

I would favor a solution where you have a NAV company for each legal entity, and some sort of a sync for the logistics.
I assume Company A and B have their own warehouses, but you want company A to ship goods from the warehouse of company B?
How does that work irl? Do the goods go directly from wh B to the customer, of via wh A?

If the latter is an option, it brings on an even more interesting discussion. Is company A allowed to ship goods from company B (which is in another country)

Perhaps you can give some more information on the actual flow of the goods.

And Dynamics AX is more suitable for that what I understand from some people. To stay in the MS-family.

I agree with Timo, better use AX than SAP. :)
